About Dr. Sanders Callaway

The Sanders Callaway Equity Trailblazers Fund honors the enduring legacy of Dr. Sanders Callaway, a distinguished dermatologist, educator, and advocate whose journey from rural Georgia to national leadership in dermatology serves as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring medical professionals.

A native of Statesboro, Georgia, Dr. Callaway graduated from Georgia Southern University and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia (MCG), where he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine and a Dermatology Residency at MCG before embarking on a career defined by clinical excellence, mentorship, and community impact. Today, he serves as a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at MCG and maintains a thriving private practice in Augusta.

Dr. Callaway has been repeatedly recognized as one of the top dermatologists in Georgia and is a nationally respected leader in Mohs surgery. His accolades include serving as President of the American Society for Mohs Surgery (2023–2024) and President of the Georgia Society of Dermatologists (2016–2017), among many other leadership roles and honors. His commitment to patient care, education, and equity exemplifies the highest ideals of medicine to make it accessible and affordable for all.

Established through the DermElevate Scholarship Initiative, the Sanders Callaway Equity Trailblazers Fund provides financial support to college students—especially those from historically underrepresented and underserved communities—pursuing early educational opportunities and experiences related to medicine and dermatology. This fund honors Dr. Callaway’s dedication to mentorship, service, and expanding pathways into the field.

Through this scholarship, we aim to cultivate the next generation of equity-driven trailblazers in medicine—individuals who, like Dr. Callaway, are committed to making dermatology and healthcare more inclusive, innovative, and compassionate.
